What is WIKI

A wiki is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) text editor. Wikis are typically powered by wiki software and are often used to create collaborative wiki websites, to power community websites, for personal note taking, in corporate intranets, and in knowledge management system

On Sunday 28th Novembre 2010, Wikileaks began publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain. The documents will give people around the world an unprecedented insight into the US Government’s foreign activities.

The cables, which date from 1966 to the end of February this year, contain confidential communications between 274 embassies in countries throughout the world and the State Department in Washington DC. 15,652 of the cables are classified Secret.

Now the world is watching and standing on one leg because of the wikileaks documents.I am not here talking about the documents and what it contains but I would like to ask myslef, are wikis part of knowledge management tools .Is it true that we will not be able to hide anything in our PC’s. What is the red line that we can’t know and keep it in the form of data with someone who never share those information with you. Some people in the field of KM are saying that wiki is not part of KM tools but on the otherhand some people are happy that we should live in a world that is full of transperency , in a world that knowledge is shared with everyone no matter what is your level in this world. Keep in mind that there some precautions in our social life confedenality and to strengthen the KM ethics, but we have to be certain that no matter what you  hide in your PC and once you are connected in the www then you are now in the  cloud and your information will be distributed one day ,somewhere by someone who may tell people it is part of

knowledge sharing so be ready for the reply
